lanrezac Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 The LOSAT is simple to operate. The gunner acquires the target with the thermalsight, designates one or two targets, and pulls the trigger. The system is totally auto-matic after that point. The laser ranges the target and the flight information is down-loaded to the missiles. The missiles are then launched and fly into the field of view of the thermal sight. The laser up-links to the missile and provides the position of the missile relative to the target. The missile adjusts its flight by using the thrusters mounted on the nose and flies into the target. http://www.lockheedmartin.com/data/assets/8859.pdf http://www.army-technology.com/projects/losat/ The development testing concluded in March 2004.
