Några av kommentarerna från filmsidan… (den bosniska sidan för skådespelarear är egentligen från Före detta YU) As far as I´m concerned Warriors is a very realistic depiction of what it was like in Bosnia during the war. It shows the brutality being committed to civilians and how the "hopeless" Un-mandate could comfuse (and disgust) both the population and the soldiers themselves. Just look what happened in the "safe sone" of Srebrenica(!). But one must bare in mind that the events depicted here is just in One particular region of Bosnia. Here it happenes to be the British-sector in the Travnic, Vitez, Amichi area. Some incidents I know happened (like the burned victims in the cellar) and some are most likely made up, but surely with the intent of realism in mind. Here obviosly the Serbs outnumbered the Muslims and therefor had most of the control. This I mention because after reading two comments here, both from Bosnia oe most likely to be Serb (saying that the depictions in this film are "black and white" portrayed) and one Muslim (Finding the film to be very realistic, having lived through the whole war in Sarajevo.) Having been in bosnia myself I think I can appreciate this film more. Being shot in Tsjekkia it still looks very much like Bosnia. Although it was wery calm there then (in -99),long after the war was over. The UN had been replaced by the NATO forces(maybe a bit too late). But the work consisted of pretty much the same(except for the extreme tasks given as the result of war off cource) , driving around in our "sizu`s", working with local interpreters and keeping in touch with the local population. The following year I went to Kosovo, a more recent conflict. During that war NATO bombed Serbia in protest of the treatment given to the Albanians in Kosovo. When we arrived(early 2000) the situation had turned to the opposite and it was mostly the Serbs who had to be kept safe of the Albanians, who had started returning to Kosovo. So I agree that there is no such thing as a "black and white" explanation of the tragedy. There was surely bad deeds made by all "sides", as in every war.

But if you write something you must explain something to visitors on this site. And that is the situation in Vares before is happen a massacre in Stupni Do. What happen what are the Forces around Vares Where is Vares. So this is My Story Vareš is a town and municipality in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, famous for the local mining activities and production of iron. It is the seat of the municipality of Vareš, and part of the Zenica-Doboj Canton and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the 1991 census, the municipality of Vareš had 22,114 residents: 8,982 Croats (40.6%), 6,721 Bosniaks (30.4%), 3,630 Serbs (16.4%), and 2,781 others (12.6%). Due to War, the population of the area had been reduced to 13,293 residents in the 2001 census. Ethnically, the municipality of Vareš had 9,700 Bosniaks (73.0%), 3,500 Croats (26.3%), 56 Serbs (0.4%), and 37 others (0.3%). Vares was from 3 sides South-West and Nord surrounded by BiH Army (ABIH Muslim forces) and Small corridor to the East with Serbs controlled by Bosnian Serbs Forces (VRS). From Tuzla attacked on Northwest side. First contact was on Hill Lijesnica .19.10. Village Kopjari was burned to the ground. There was 6 civilian victims between them was a one boy. ABIH don’t want to let one UNPROFOR platoon in the Village that said Military observers. So we have a Stupni Do before Stupni Do. By these actions of ABIH the way to Vares was open. They send one unit to Stupni Do like support and some light artillery. Opposite Side: Brigade Bobovac Tell 1650 Man armed with light weapon. And one platoon light artillery. In HQ Ponikve near by UN Base HVO send report to HQ HVO for Middle Bosnia in Vitez. They get answer that Brigade Bobovac will get 200 man Help from Kiseljak. Ivica Rajic (accused for war crimes in Stupni Do) and his Dogs of War coming in to the town. They started immediately with plunder, rape and taking the civilian Moslem prisoners to the local School .In the Town was nobody how cant stop them. All able male population was busy to defend first lines around City. Leadership of Vares civilian was taken to HQ Ponikve and been tie to the tube of central warming and left in to the room without water and food. Next step was Operation in Stupni Do. Somehow Local Croats get one man witch sister was married in Stupni Do. He tells him what happened in the town and that probably next target is his village. That was just a night before attack. What happened in Village I m not going to repeat cos the story of the Swedish UN military and what they found there is true. 30.10.1993 Finale Battle Forces ABIH Attacked on to the First Lines of the HVO Brigade Bobovac.It Was 10: 1.10 soldiers of ABIH to 1 of HVO the fighting was impossible because of the configuration and very bad support in ammunition and man. Some of them didn’t sleep 24 hours of longer. No longer Village Dubostica falls in to the hand of ABIH Six civilians was murdered. Houses are plundered and burned, same story is for next villages Pogar,Tribija,Vijaka,Ocevija,Ivancevo. Whole world talking by TV but nobody do something to stop the madness. Rivers of the Refugees and militaries going in to a city. And everything is observed by UN. Offensive against HVO Vares goes on. Forces ABIH driven by will for revenge and happy for war payment and pray in food. 03.11.1993 Civilians and military starting evacuation of the Town. The way to go was trough territory controlled by the Bosnian Serbs VRS.Serbs separated civilians and military. In between taken them German marks gold and any worth property. 1500 is been transported of city Sokolac and 7500 is transported to Kiseljak. In City of Vares is 600 civilians’ who don’t want to left and in the 100 around in the villages. 5.11.1993 Started War crime against people in Village Borovica.Borovica was give up it was just a couple people and old who don’t want to leav.Around was a 7th brigade ,309 brigade .Brigade from Kakanj and Local patriots from neighbourhood (Mijakovici,Dragovici).Village is totally destroyed all houses even Church .All what is left is brutally murdered . In the same time I was arrived in the Village Dastansko.On the crossroads was one SISU but the crew was not to see. On the Hill 300 m away was Observing post surrounded with wire. After two days Cetniks of Local Criminal VASKO from Ilijas city came in to Dastansko.He came with a Black Mitsubishi and dead men skull on his motor cap. At the first moment I didn’t understand what’s going on. Next scene was 3 Sweden without weapon going down the hill and been kicking in the ass by the rebellion’s can’t believe with my eyes. The Military who‘s been captured was old approximately 20 years not older I was 19. I got to do something F…. I can t help but any way not long ago village was surrounded with a Panzer vehicles .Guns was turned on to the Village.Obserrving post was for a time changed to Check point in Pzici.After 6 months was created in Washington an agreement between ABIH an HVO. My Next contact with UN troops was in month 6/7 1994 on Observing post on the Visnjici Cemetery area by the big cross. First was a Maj. By the end of september our SISU and a platoon from 10th mech inf company were sent urgently as reinforcements to the 8th mech inf company area of responsibility in Vares. This was because several of the battalion's armored vehicles had been involved in clashes with units of the HVO. The 8th coy had also been subjected to ambushes. The mood in Vares was nasty and very threatening. No civilians what-so-ever were moving outdoors and the entire time we were close, too close, to losing control of the situation. If we ever had any control that is. We were a few hundred Swedes against an entire Croatian brigade. Houses were burning here and there in Vares and its surroundings, but from one of the battalion observation posts one could see the light of a fire that from the looks of it was more serious. It seemed as if an entire village was in flames. However, Croatian forces were blocking the access routes and refused to let anyone near the village. Units from the Swedish battalion had repeatedly been, and still were, subjected to ambushes by "unknown" soldiers. Sometimes they shot back. The whole situation was like walking a thin line. Most of the SISU-vehicles had one or more tires that had been scavenged from less prioritized vehicles. The tires had been blown out and shot at such a pace that no more spares were available. Instead there were now a couple of trucks without wheels put up on blocks in the camp. The mood between the Croatian forces and the Swedish battalion was as mentioned not the best. Still though the hostilities were not official. Going into the village on the other hand would have meant an open confrontation with the HVO. The Swedish battalion was a few hundred men, and reinforcements were not available in the foreseeable future. Against them, they would have gotten the entire Croatian Bobovac Brigade.
