https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/paris-usaf-still-finding-fod-in-boeing-kc-46-and-ex-459031/

The US Air Force (USAF) continues to find foreign object debris (FOD) inside the Boeing KC-46A Pegasus in-flight refuelling tanker, including loose material found this week, and it expects to discover objects for the foreseeable future.

FOD found inside new KC-46As delivered to the USAF is a result of cultural problems, said Will Roper, USAF assistant secretary of the air force for acquisition, technology and logistics, at the show. The service is finding tools, rubbish and left-over parts such as loose nuts during inspections, he said.

“It’s a cultural issue,” says Roper. “We are having those cultural dialogues with Boeing. This is not something you fix by sending out a memo, and then there’s no foreign object debris in the airplanes.”

As a result of additional inspections, the USAF is accepting aircraft at a pace of about one per month – less than the three per month that was planned. Boeing had planned to deliver 36 aircraft to the USAF in 2019, but thus far has delivered just 11 jets, said Roper.

https://www.defensenews.com/air/2020/03/03/a-fix-for-the-kc-46-is-already-a-year-late/

The Air Force now believes a correction for the Boeing KC-46 tanker’s major technical problem won’t be available until at least 2023, forecasting a one-year delay to previous estimates, its top general said Tuesday.

The service is now targeting a 2023-2024 timeframe to begin fielding a fix for the Remote Vision System, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing. The RVS, manufactured by Rockwell Collins, is a series of cameras that allows users to steer a refueling boom into the aircraft receiving gas.

KC-46A flies 36-hour, record-breaking endurance mission

A KC-46A Pegasus from the 157th Air Refueling Wing at Pease Air National Guard Base, New Hampshire, flew a 36-hour non-stop endurance mission covering 16,000 miles, Nov. 16-17, Air Mobility Command’s longest mission to date.

During the mission, the aircraft refueled F-22 fighters in the Pacific and was itself refueled three times.

Imponerande. Tankningsplanen fick m. a. o. även tanka varandra i ett komplicerat mönster.

Operation Black Buck

Operation Black Buck continued through May and into June 1982, and pilots flew seven total sorties. At that time, the bombing mission was the longest combat bombing raid in military history. The record remained until American B-2 bombers carried out a 35 hour, 14,000-mile mission during Desert Storm. That record was broken shortly after 9/11, when B-2 bombers exceeded 70 hours in flight time over Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.

1991 B-52 35 timmar i luften.

On 16–17 January 1991, the first combat sortie of Operation Desert Storm, and the longest combat sortie in history at that time, was launched from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. Seven B-52Gs flew a thirty-five-hour mission to the region and back to launch 35 Boeing Air Launched Cruise Missiles (ALCMs) with the surprise use of conventional warheads. This attack, which successfully destroyed 85–95 percent of intended targets, would have been impossible without the support of refueling tankers.

2017 B-2 33 tiimmar i luften:

On 18 January 2017, two B-2s attacked an ISIS training camp 19 miles (30 km) southwest of Sirte, Libya, killing around 85 militants. The B-2s together dropped 108 500-pound (230 kg) precision-guided Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) bombs. These strikes were followed by an MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle firing Hellfire missiles. Each B-2 flew a 33-hour, round-trip mission from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri with four or five (accounts differ) refuelings during the trip.
