First of all I apologise for writing in English but I can not speak Swedish.
I have just bought a Bv202. I should have collected it today, but it is on a shooting range on a mountain in South Wales and as it has rained a lot recently the owner wouldn't let me in with my AEC Militant in case I damage the ground. I will have to wait until it dries up a bit.
I already own three military vehicles and two trailers;
1970 AEC Militant Mk3 Medium Recovery Vehicle
1990 Land Rover 110 V8
1981 Land Rover 101 ambulance
1978 Weeks 10 ton recovery trailer
197? Sankey 3/4 ton trailer
I am looking for any information on the Bv202. Has anyone got a workshop manual, parts book or any other books in English which they could scan and e-mail.
Please reply in English if possible. I have been using this site to translate but I still have to guess some of it.
Thanks in advance, and in return, if anyone has got any questions about Military Land Rovers or AECs I will try to help.

Hello Graham

Welcome to our part of the military world smile.gif

I´m not going to help you about your question you asked, cause its not my terretory but what I am going to do is offering help if you ever need any.

To begin with,
Have you switched to english as forum-language ? It may help you a lot to begin with smile.gif you kan du that in your Controlpanel (Min kontrollpanel) There choose - "Skal och språk" and the top curtainmenu, there you have the option to select English.
Most of the technical text and stuff like that have forums-functions will be in english but not all, some buttons will still be in swedish I´m afraid.

But its a golden opportunity for you to learn swedish.. right ?! ;)

Anyway, the ppl you could ask for help are, everyone actually, I think everyone here will gladly help out if there are any kind of questions or problems.. but we who adminstrate the Forum (moderators/admins) has a blue and yellow flag as groupicon, we are called BlåGul, and in english terms, a BlåGul is the one who runs and controls a military training/excersise-battle etc.

There are probly some other here that speaks english better than me, but I hope you will understand most of what have to say.

What I´m going to do later is that I´m going to move your thread, to "Transportcentralen" thats our forum that handles all kind of vehicles.
And its there all the ppl that might be able to help you hang around smile.gif diesel-monkeys or what ever we call them.

Once again, welcome and I hope you´ll get an answer for your question.

Always nice to see another Brit around the place!

The Hagglunds Bvs are lovely, aren't they? I live up in Scotland, I've been trying to persuade my parents to get a 206 for gardening. We've got a fair bit of land, y'see, and trees keep falling down - so it's ideal, particularly if we can fit a lawnmower attachment... laugh.gif

Torak: Have you seen what a 202 does to the grass? I dont think your mother will like you very much after you cut the grass (4 times a day biggrin.gif)

Gramham: Take a look at http://hem.fyristorg.com/snowcat/IndexE.htm
This guy owns a few 202:s and also some other military vehicles.

Have fun!

I know! No grass --> No mowing!

(I don't like mowing the lawn... although I would if we'd bought that Stiga President we looked at... lovely gadget, hydrostatic throttle and all....)

I have just bought a Bv202.

Hi there! Welcome to be a proud owner of a nice piece of swedish quality. Try to find information at www.mfhf.nu. There you'll find people having the same interest like you an d also a market for spare parts. You'll find interesting links and some of them I think might be in english. Regards! /Gusten Rangern.gif

I tried to collect my Bv202 on Saturday but got my Militant stuck blyg.gif so I just took some photos of it instead.

There is a better route to where it has been abandoned but it goes across someone elses field so I will have to ask the farmer if he will tow it out for me with his tractor.
A technical question now, the first of many. 7.gif
How do you steer a Bv202 when it is being towed ?
Will the steering ram hold it fixed in position or can it be set to "float" so that the back half will just follow the front half ?

I have borrowed a parts book in English to copy, I still need a manual.

Torak, Witham's have got some Bv206s for sale, but they are up to 75 times the price of my Bv202. ohmy.gif

Hi there Graham.

May I ask you how much you paid for your Bv202?

I payed £200. I have just bought 3 wheels & tyres to replace the missing ones for £25 each.
There is a Bv202 for sale on milweb, about 3/4 down the page for £3500
Torak
That 202 looks rather the worse for wear - you've got some restoration work ahead of you!

I've had a look at Witham's before, they seem good. I'm hoping to buy a Tgb11 when I get back to the UK.

Update & some questions.
While looking for parts for my BV202, I ended up buying another one, another front half only and 3 crates of spares. I now own 2.5 Bv202s and about 500kg of spares. ohmy.gif
The engine in the first one I bought, British military registration 31 GX 18, was full of rain water. I have put the engine out of 31 GX 27 in it, but there is still a lot to do before I can drive it.
31 GX 15 is in good working order although it is a bit rusty in places, I thought Swedish steel was supposed to be good quality, :P but then I bet you thought the same about the British steel in Land Rover chassis. blyg.gif I have got it parked at a friends house and we have been playing with it in the fields nearby.

The remains of 31 GX 27. This will be donating its engine, fuel tanks, windows etc. to 31 GX 18

Playing with 31 GX 15

Now for some questions.
How tight should the tracks be ?
What should the tyre pressures be ?
What oils should I use ? EP90 in the transmission & 15w-40 in the engine ?
Should I use hydraulic oil or ATF in the steering ?

I have started making a website to collect as much information as possible in one place. http://www.aecmilitant.co.uk/bv202/home.html

Graham
The Swede
Tyre preassure should be 500 kPa (5 kp/cm2) for the road wheels and 600 kPa (6 kp/cm2) for the iddler wheels.
Returnrollers should have 200 kPa (2 kp/cm2)

Track tension should be with a 25 mm down hang for steel tracks and 10-15 mm for all rubber tracks.
The way you check the track tension is to drive forward on even ground and let the vehicle come to a halt by itself and then place a wodden pole or equivelent on the upper part of the track between the drive sprocket and return roller and measure how much the track "hangs down".

This info comes from the instructions book for the Bv 202.

I have no info about what oil to use since I don't have the lubrication chart for the Bv 202.

About the oils. On your website you link to the lubrication chart and in it you can read what oils to use. Apparently there is supposed to be a mix in the steering but then again, I could be reading it wrong.

I hope you get much fun out of your bv. I spent 15 months in one and it was... eh... cold! But still, its was trusty companion. At the end of the 15 months we unfortunately had to scrap it (her?) since the engine gave up.

EDIT: The BV202 commercial on http://www.poff.org/ was one of the best I have ever seen... biggrin.gif

Got inspired and looked up a couple of old pictures. Scanned a long time ago when images should be small and crappy. unsure.gif

Hi Graham.

How are the condition of the cars (Landrovers) sold at Withams.

Is a visit before transaction needed?

I am very interested in buying two Landrovers 90s LHD.
MilitantGraham
Thanks for the information, Swede.
Danno, well spotted, I should have seen that. I wonder why it uses a mixture of engine oil and hydraulic oil in the steering ? It uses engine oil in the gearbox as well.
111 SSK bat, Witham's sell Land Rovers in all conditions. Some are straight out of service and some have been overhauled and painted. I have never bought from any of the big dealers myself, I will ask around and see if anyone has got any recommendations.
