En nackdel med att flyga med öppen dörr tas upp i boken "Chariots of the Damned", i kapitlet om insatserna i Somalia -93 (Black Hawk Down-scenariot) skriver Mike Ryan följande:
QUOTE
As the Rangers flew above the Somali people, many of them had taken to sitting in the door entrance of their Black Hawk helicopters, in an attempt to try and keep cool by using the down draft from the helicopters rotor-blades. In itself, this was an innocent enough act, however, as they sat in the doorways, they dangled their feet outside of the helicopters, showing the soles of their boots to the Somalis below. They didn´t know it, but this was the ultimate insult that you could give a Somali. As a result, every time the Rangers´ Black Hawks passed over the crowds in the markets and streets below, they were insulting the ordinary people of Mogadishu. This was to have a disastrous effect on American and UN operations, because the very people that they had come to assist, were now turning against them and siding with the warlords instead.
