Det är en del av deras BT-system (DFWES, också tillverkat av SAAB)
Jag citerar min källa på modellbyggarforumet Missing-Lynx direkt:

Yes indeed the dangling thing under the Chally 2 barrel is part of the DFWES setup. It forms part of the Hull Down Detector Unit, the rest being on the turret.

Yes the HDDU work with the main detectors. The whole DFWES thing is Laser based as is MILES. Any projector can 'fire' at the Challenger and the detectors either see or don't see the other laser signature. Therefore the onboard system then know if a vehicle is 'Hull Down'. If a vehicle is not Hull down then the likelehood of a K Kill or Mobility Kill is heightened. The system takes into account of what it is being shot by, and then it calculates the whole thing down to the likelehood of what the outcome will be.
Of course the DFWES thing is built by your very own Saab Training Systems at Husquvana. I had the pleasure of working along side STS for four years, before I left the British Army. Funnily enough we used to configure the 'Enemy' Tanks as T80's. Which annoyed BlueFor as they would have a much lower 'Target' signature.
En HDDU kanske vore nåt för vårt BT-system också? För vi har väl ingen sådan i dagsläget?
